How to choose the perfect jacket for cold, rain and everyday use

You don't just buy a winter coat. It's the coat you wear every day: to work, for a walk, on your bike, or on your way to school or the store.
And especially in the Netherlands, where cold, wind and rain often come together, you want a coat that does more than just look good.

But how do you know which winter coat really suits you?

We help you make the right choice step by step β€” tailored to your life, your usage and the weather you encounter.

1. How warm should your winter coat be?

Not everyone has the same warmth needs. The right winter coat depends heavily on what you'll be using it for .

Ask yourself:

  • Do I stand or walk outside a lot?

  • Do I cycle every day?

  • Do I get cold easily?

  • Do I also go outside in snow or freezing temperatures?

πŸ‘‰ Do you go outside a lot and get cold quickly?
Then choose a well-lined winter coat with an insulating lining.

πŸ‘‰ Are you mainly on the move (cycling, walking)?
Then a jacket that is warm but breathable is often more comfortable.

Tip: You only really notice that your coat is too thin when the temperature drops below zero.

2. Waterproof, that's what you need!

In winter, waterproofness is at least as important as warmth.

  • Water-repellent : ideal for a light shower or dry cold

  • Waterproof : essential in (prolonged) rain, wet snow and winter showers

Do you go outside every day, do you cycle a lot or do you live in a windy area?
πŸ‘‰ Then a waterproof winter coat is not a luxury, but a must.

Also note:

  • Taped seams

  • Windproof outer fabric

  • A hood that closes well

This way you not only stay warm, but also really dry.
Good to know! All the jackets we sell are waterproof.

3. Lined or unlined?

A winter coat can be warm in different ways.

Lined (quilted or thermal):

  • Retains heat

  • Ideal for cold and freezing weather

  • Fewer layers needed

Lighter lined or unlined:

  • More freedom of movement

  • Great if you walk or cycle a lot

  • Can be easily combined with layers

πŸ‘‰ Are you in doubt?
It's better to choose something warmer. You can always open a zipper, but you won't get the cold out.

4. Long or short: what suits your day?

The length of your coat makes a big difference in comfort.

Long winter coat

  • Extra warmth for the legs and lower back and you don't need rain pants

  • Protects well against wind

  • Ideal for cold and wet weather

Shorter winter coat

  • More freedom of movement

  • Great for driving

  • Sportier silhouette

πŸ‘‰ Do you spend a lot of time outdoors or walking? Then a long coat provides that little bit of extra comfort.

5. What do you mainly use your winter coat for?

The perfect winter coat fits your everyday life.

For daily use

  • Comfortable

  • Waterproof & windproof

  • Timeless model

For bicycles

  • Freedom of movement

  • Good closure at the neck

  • Windproof

For walking

  • Warm but breathable

  • Practical pockets

  • Protection against rain and snow

A jacket that suits your rhythm is something you'll enjoy wearing β€” every day.

6. Common mistakes when choosing a winter coat

We see these often (and you can now avoid them):

  • Choose only on appearance

  • Buying too thin β€œjust to be safe”

  • Not taking rain and wind into account

  • Too tight fit (no room for layers)

A good winter coat immediately feels good β€” warm, comfortable and familiar.

7. Our tip: choose consciously, don't rush

A winter coat is an investment in comfort.
If your coat is right:

  • you go outside more easily

  • stay warmer and drier

  • enjoy winter days more

And you feel that every day.
